I basically needed to recreate the "Category" due to some paramater mapping being forgotten. I was doing some support for a customer that involved deleting a few families from CC, deleting the "Category" folder they were in and creating a new "Category" folder. I edited the CC library location in Inventor so it can find the files and tried again - still crashes when applying or changing a filter. If you have kb2538242 says installed successfully, but hasnt then we strongly recommend that you Download (kb2538242 says installed successfully, but hasnt) Repair Tool. I moved the CC library files to my drive which is where my inventor models are stored.
I have checked all updates and SP's are installed and my Windows 10 is also up to date as far as I can tell. Perhaps it's co-incidental, I really don't know. Only when I place a part that I have modelled myself, can be a simple block did the CC crash again.

As mentioned in a previous post, the CC seems to work fine in an empty assembly window and I can place all sorts of parts from the CC to my hearts content. Update KB2538242 I notice from my Update History screen that update KB2538242 has bee successfully updated some 28 times, surely once should be sufficient, unless there were some subtle variations bearing the same KB number. I then re-installed Inventor 2016 and the problem at first seemed to be gone. Over the weekend I did a very thorough and clean uninstall of all Autodesk software on my pc as I had old versions of inventor installed on my system and thought that maybe this could be wreaking havoc.
